Frequently Asked Questions

What is microblading and how does it differ from combo, nano and powder brows?

Microblading is a semi-permanent form of tattooed brows where individual hair strokes are carefully placed in order to enhance your natural brow. Combo or microshaded brows include both microbladed individual hair strokes as well as shading with a tattoo machine. This technique is best for those with light or fine hair, those who fill in their brows and work in an environment where sweating is impossible to avoid, and also simply for those tired of feeling the need to spend time filling in their brows daily! Nano brow strokes are laid using only a tattoo machine with very small needles, and powder brows are gradiently shaded to resemble heavily filled in brows, such as with a pomade. (At this time, I am not offering nano or powder brows, but hopefully someday!)

Is microblading painful?

Pain tolerance varies by person, but at most it is mildly uncomfortable. Two different numbing agents are used during the process, and I will check in with you from time to time to make sure you remain comfortable throughout your appointment.

How long does cosmetic tattooing last?

Microblading is considered a “semi-permanent” tattoo and the pigments used are formulated to fade over time. Most people receive touch-ups every 1-2 years depending on retention and desired results. Many factors can effect pigment retention such as sun exposure, after care, oily skin, regeneration of skin cells, skincare/exfoliants, chemical peels, choice of pigment, iron deficiency, and how quickly your skin absorbs pigment. Because of this, results cannot be guaranteed as every person heals differently.

Can I still get microblading if my skin is oily or has lost some elasticity?

Healed results on oily skin can vary from person to person. Sometimes the client heals just fine and other times, the hair strokes enlarge and lighten. More frequent touch-ups may be required for longevity.

Our skin loses elasticity as we age, however there is no age limit for cosmetic tattooing. Taking into account the skin’s tone and thickness as well as sticking with a thinner, more delicate shape makes cosmetic tattooing a great option for folks 50+ who have lost density in their brows.
